Courtney Shorter, 35, has been a temp at the GM's Flint plant for three months. "Temps are working their butts off and we don't get proper shares or a Christmas bonus. Temps don't get that at all. We have to sit there and work and pay union dues. Let us get paid the same as full time employees."

She is striking for more job security, "This is how we support our families." She has numerous friends who are temporary employees and don't have access to the amount of benefits fully employed workers receive.

Chazz Akers, 24, has been with the UAW and working at the Detroit-Hamtramck Assembly Plant for 3 and a half years. He works across from a temporary employee who has been "temporary" for 2 years. Regarding raising wages and security for temporary employees he says, "We know they can afford it. They've been claiming record breaking profits for the past 4 years."
